Take your time with the stretches and play around with the angle of your arm relative to your body. With practice, you will find the position that allows you to stretch the target muscle the best for your body. It will be tough and it will take time, but you should find that your pain free ROM is increasing. The good news is that you will likely find maintenance of your new and improved ROM is easier than the process of reacquiring it.
